SCHOOL e.V.

SHITSHOW SCHOOL e.V.

Where do we actually learn how to recognise psychological stress and illnesses, how do we deal with those affected and where we get help when we are not well? During our time in school we were not informed about psychological stress and illnesses. Today, more and more young people demand that matters of mental health be talked about – and dealt with – in schools.

Against this background we have founded SHITSHOW SCHOOL e.V.. SHITSHOW SCHOOL e.V. supports schools and other educational institutions in their educational, destigmatisation and sensitisation work on mental health issues. Together with school psychologists we are constantly developing new formats that give students and teachers the tools to better deal with psychological stress and affected classmates. In our workshops and advanced training courses for schools, we actively work on the destigmatisation of mental health problems and for a mentally healthy everyday school life.

SHITSHOW SCHOOL e.V. is supported by donations. We are happy about financial support, e.g. for the free production and distribution of our mental health emergency plan for students.

Teaching for Mental Health: Information and awareness-raising workshop on depression and anxiety disorders for teachers

Depression and anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health issues worldwide, and increasingly children and adolescents are being affected. The cognitive, affective and behavioural symptoms associated with depression and anxiety disorders can have a negative impact on children and adolescents’ self-esteem and social behaviour – and thus thus negatively impact their learning.

Teachers play an important role in supporting an affected child: they can positively influence recovery through their behaviour, intervene early on, and favour a social environment that catches and supports the children in their particular situation.

In this workshop, teachers learn to recognize the symptoms and signs of depression and anxiety disorders in students early on. Using embodiment concepts, the workshop sensitizes participants to the psychosomatic symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders so that they can gain a better understanding of their effects on everyday life. Using embodiment concepts, the workshop sensitizes participants to the psychosomatic symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders so that they can gain a better understanding of their effects on everyday life. In the qualification part of the workshop, strategies and tools for communication with affected students, as well as for the design of lessons and the reintegration of affected persons are imparted. In our workshops, we provide mental health information booklets for teachers. In order to carry out the production and distribution of the plans, we are dependent on financial support. Learning for Mental Health: Information and sensitisation workshop on depression and anxiety disorders for schoolgirls*.

What do I do if I notice that a friend is withdrawing? What does depression actually feel like? And who helps me when I feel like shit? In this workshop we fill gaps in our knowledge about depression and anxiety disorders and enable students to better deal with psychological stress in class.

Together – and with the help of the MOODSUITS – we explore the similarities and differences between depression and sadness, anxiety disorder and fear. We discover the physical components of the symptoms and discuss them. The workshop leaders from the SHITSHOW team also provide insights into their own medical history and clarify what is really behind the sometimes so abstract-sounding symptom descriptions. The students get a lot of space and openness for questions and comments. Strategies are developed how to deal with (possibly) affected classmates and friends and advice on how best to provide help and support is given. In order to carry out the production and distribution of the plans, we are dependent on financial support. Please see below for donation details.
